Weather within reach

Obtaining up-to-the-minute weather updates in this day and age is extremely necessary in countries such as the Philippines where monsoons are remarkably prevalent. Not counting countries in the Pacific Ring of Fire where it is frequently hit by horrifying tropical storms and earth-shattering catastrophes. More often than not, in Southeast Asia and in some parts of Oceania.

For this reason, it is incredibly uplifting to hear that there is already an SMS weather alert service that extraordinarily serves as a word of warning for typhoons, floods, as well as for climate updates.

Furthermore, this was just recently launched by PAGASA, the country's weather bureau along with SMART Communications Inc., a cellular service provider here in the Philippines. They joined forces in order to provide the Philippines and the world at large, with up-to-date weather alerts and updates through SMS.

To begin with, if you want to receive various announcements and advisories from PAGASA, SMART subscribers have to initially register for a specific type of update.

1. To register, text ULANREG NAME/ADDRESS/AGE and send to 717 (ULAN) or 717 (8526).

2. To subscribe, text ULANPUSH ON and send to 717 ULAN.

3. To unsubscribe, text ULANPUSH OFF and send to 717 ULAN.

4. To download information on flood updates, text BAHAINFO ADVISORY to 7008526.

5. For weather info, text ULANINFO ADVISORY or BAGYO INFOADVISORY to 7008526.

6. And for general information, text GENERALINFO PAGASA to 7008526.
